Revelation 21:1-8 New King James Version (NKJV)
All Things Made New
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.
4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.
7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving,[e] abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
These are wonderful words, or goals, for a New Year!
--God offers, "Behold, I make all things new" (v 5).
--He wants to do that for anyone. I could use that!
--I thought, how this world - most of us - need it.
--A new world of righteousness. Peace. Goodwill.
--A new you. A new me. Lord, I pray, make us new!
Life at times gets into a rut, and loses its zest.
--People, marriages, and churches need revivals.
--Need continual renewal, in the Lord, Word, Spirit.
--Turning a calendar, or resolutions can't do it.
--Turning our life over to the Lord Jesus can.
--He says, "I make all things new." God can do it.
--He's doing it for many people. Many churches.
When pastoring in West Virginia, a neighbor threw away at the curb a chest of drawers. Stood there a time.
--So I could use it, even though well worn, and old.
--It was of good wood. So brought it home.
--I envisioned what it must have looked like, new.
--With a labor of love, sanding, staining, new again!
--What man did for a chest, God can do for us!
"In the beginning," God made a perfect, created world.
--God made it "out of nothing." It was a paradise!
--Don't you think He can make a beautiful life of us?
You say, "I've got lots of troubles. Burdens, Ills."
--Maybe you do have some tears, fears, and hurts.
--Look at verse 4, "God will wipe away every tear."
--Let the Lord "make all things new" for you, and me.
--He can lift our load, whatever it may be; change us.
Just let God lead, 1°to dwell with us, be His people."
--For all of us, to "be their God" (v 3). Is He?
Friend, there is no better God. No better Savior.
--He is a God of love. Holiness. Sacrifice. Care.
--Who offers life, not death! Seeks to help not harm.
--Begin anew with Him daily, in His Word and prayer.
No matter your situation, God can make it better.
--God has not failed. Many have failed to try Him.
You say, "Isn't perfection to be in heaven?" It is.
--But we don't have to wait till heaven, to have it!
Don't we pray the Lord's Prayer He taught us, ".. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven"? Do we mean what we pray, "on earth"?
--Isn't this the ideal Jesus came to bring, on earth?
--To "Love our neighbor as ourself." "Live in peace."
--To "set our affection on things above" (Col. 3:2).
Why not a new me, new you, a new world, here on earth?
--If not new, then we remain much the same as the old.
--God says, "I make all things new." He can, in us.
Every 24 hours God gives us a new . A new start.
--A new year. A "new song" on our lips. "New heart."
--When saved, Jesus gives us a new name, "Christian."
--To have a new nature, and eliminate our sin nature.
--Gives us a new vocabulary. Newopwer of His Spirit!
I've seen Jesus make "new persons" of addicts on drugs and drink; of homosexuals, people ready for divorce.
--People on the brink, ready to give up on life.
Whatever your state, you are on the brink of a miracle!
--You and I can't do it, but Jesus can. I know!
--With our cooperation, obedience, and a right desire.
--My friend, for God to do it, we must want Him to!
I was to a Pastoral Conference at Hillsdale College.
--It is a fine institution, in lovely Hillsdale, MI.
--The president, Donald Phillips, shared this story.
--He was the motivational speaker to Chicago business men's conference, in one of the large hotels there.
--He was getting set up, on a large blackboard.
--Dr. Phillips wrote seven keys - ways to succeed.
--Seven winning ways to success in life, and business.
--The hall was empty, except a cleaning lady.
--She kept watching, taking it all in, at her work.
After awhile, she came over to this college president.
--"You left out the most important one," she said.
--Can you imagine, the courage of this dear lady?
--He had "left out the most important one!"
--Gracious as he was, he said, "Please, what is it?"
This black cleaning lady said to the University president, "The important thing you left out is .. you gotta wanna .. you gotta wanna do it!"
--You know, she is right! We've got to want to do it.
--Dr. Phillips thanked her, added it to his list.
My fellow saints and citizens, that will work.
--We'll not go far, change much, grow in the Lord, bear much fruit in faithful service, unless we want to.
--Do we want to change? To be "new persons"?
Now God is not promising to turn clocks back to days of our youth, when most attractive, and energetic.
--He doesn't make us young again, except in spirit.
--Rather God gives us a new attitude, of His likeness!
--He's talking about our spiritual life, for any age.
--Our relationship with Him. And with others.
--To give us more joy. Ability to accept His will.
--So He can make "all things work together for good."
--Each day, to love Him more, in new, holy fellowship.
Since 9/11/2001, our life and world requires our best.
--Our best faith, and obedience. To trust God more.
--So many unknowns. Evil terrorists. Many afraid.
--The world economy, our jobs, and health, uncertain.
--I need a new, stronger faith in God. Maybe you do.
If God can make a "new heaven, new earth, new Jerusalem, and all things new," He can make "new persons."
--Listen, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (II Cor. 5:17). Lord, do it in us.
My friend, filled with the Holy Spirit, it doesn't take a new spouse .. new house .. or new job, to make us now.
--It just takes the "joy of the Lord" in a new appreciation of the ones we have!
--The grass is not always greener over the fence.
--Make the place .. situation .. you are in, "new."
--Some prayer .. a desire to let the Lord lead .. makes a difficult situation so much brighter and better.
I want to do that in my life. Walk and talk with Him.
--"In the beginning" God made a paradise. Let Him now.
--God's still the same. He can change us.
"God created the heavens and earth" (Genesis 1:1).
--God did it. Not man. And not evolution.
--God made the world, us; "saw it was good" (1:25).
--And God can make it - and us - anew! Saved! Good!
How do we know? God's words "are true and faithful".
--The One Who is "the Way, Truth, and Life" is surely "true and faithful" (Revelation 21:5). He is God.
--"True" refers to God's precious promises.
--"Faithful" means His ability to fulfill them in us.
My friend, no offense, but we all need to be made new.
--We are sinners. God says so. If honest, we know.
--Sinners have need of a loving, forgiving Savior.
--What "the Law," and all our "good works" or "gifts" could not do, Jesus did, by giving Himself for us.
I don't understand it all. How God loves us so.
--But I believe it, and accept it all, for it works.
--Jesus says, "I Am Alpha and Omega, the beginning.. and the end." What is He telling us?
--That as God, He is all we need - from A to Z.
He wants to be our loving, forgiving, giving, God.
--How do we receive Him? Simply "be born anew."
--Jesus told Nicodemus, a good man, "You must be born again. Unless one is born again he cannot see ..or enter .. the kingdom of God" (John 3:3-5).
He is saying eternal life is not being christened or being baptized, or joining church - but "in Christ."
--These are good for us to do, but only Jesus saves!
--If salvation .. heaven .. was some other way, then Jesus would not need to come .. suffer .. and die!
--Other things, good as they are, cannot save us.
Millions, as I, have followed Jesus .. "born again."
--We are cleansed. With peace, and Spirit's power.
--We begin the path of a new you! God's way.
--You, as I, will be happy for your decision.
--By Christ's cross for our sins. But Jesus arose!
--No other religion, or leader, can compare.
--Victor over death, disease, despair and the devil!
--If not saved, will you let Jesus do it .. now?
--To "make all things new."
